When Harry Met Jack ToneyPosted on Mar 31, 2008 - 03:22 PM
Harry D. Butler, Times Correspondent, stated, "I've been a devoted fan of Southern Gospel music since the first time I heard a quartet sing LeRoy Abernathy's hit song, "The Gospel Boogie," six decades ago. The group singing was the guest artist on the Bowman Family's Saturday night radio program. I recently drove from Gadsden to Boaz by way of Alabama Highway 205, north of the Rockledge turnoff, the old route before U.S. Highway 431 was built. I had just turned left onto 205 when I was shocked to see a road sign, "The Jack Toney Memorial Highway." The author then goes on to recount his meeting of Jack Toney. Historians should love the story. Referring website: http://www.gadsdentimes.com/article/20080331/NEWS/803310315/1016/NEWS Page 1 of 1 pages Comments |
